Silver Date Palm, Phoenix Sylvestris, Wild Date Palm

This date palm is an attractive landscape plant with its blue-green leaves and textured trunk. The canopy of this palm is dense and round. Growing a solitary robust trunk, with interesting diamond pattern created by leaf scars Sylvestris is a fast growing palm.

Phonix sylvestris known as Wild Date palm or Silver Date Palm, while ‘sylvestris’ means wild. This palm produces edible fruits but it is generally called Wild date palm to distinguish it from the closely related Phoenix dactylifera, which is known as Date palm and is cultivated agriculturally as the commercial source of edible dates.
